BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Xavier Feliz (Boston, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs to back an eight-inning performance on the mound by fellow senior Grayson Weber (Las Vegas, Nev.) as Fisher held off a late inning rally to post a 6-5 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The visiting Falcons (18-23) jumped out to a 2-0 first inning on a RBI double by sophomore Cody Mercier (Salem, Mass.) and Feliz’s sacrifice fly, but the host Buccaneers (15-11) got a run back in the bottom of the frame when sophomore Connor Kennedy (West Barnstable, Mass.) doubled, advanced to third and scored on sophomore Logan Sullo’s (Acushnet, Mass.) sacrifice fly.  Fisher extended its edge to 5-1 in the second on an RBI double by junior Kyle Anulao (Peoria, Ariz.) and junior Sam Schroeder’s (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) run-scoring single that sandwiched an error, and the visitors added what proved to be the deciding tally in the seventh on Feliz’s RBI groundout.  Sullo’s third home run of the spring (a solo shot to right in the bottom of the eighth) sliced Massachusetts Maritime’s deficit to four at 6-2, and the hosts received an RBI double from junior Jake Petruzzelli (Abington, Mass.) and a pinch-hit two-run double off the bat of junior Aidan Desrosiers (North Attleboro, Mass.) to close back to within 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth.  The Buccaneers had the tying run at second with two outs, but the Falcons were able to end the contest with a strikeout and escape the threat.

Weber scattered nine hits and struck out five over eight plus innings of work to improve to 7-3 on the season for Fisher, as sophomore Matthew Trotta (Westford, Mass.) struck out three in the ninth despite allowing three hits and a pair of runs.  Kennedy and Petruzzelli paced a 12-hit attack with three hits each for Massachusetts Maritime, as freshman Travis Zurowski (Brooklyn, Conn.) allowed four hits and one earned run over the first three innings of action in suffering the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Framingham, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Fisher travels to Philadelphia, Pa. on Sunday afternoon to square off with Chestnut Hill in a non-league twinbill that begins at Noon.
