Bad News Bucs Dip, Dodge, Duck, Dive, and Dodge Past Rugby

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. – Massachusetts Maritime Academy celebrated its second annual Bucs4Bucs Day, which promotes philanthropy education and community involvement through a series of events and activities across campus. Buccaneer Athletics was a proud participant in the event, hosting a scavenger hunt location with Bucs bumper stickers and hosting a dodgeball tournament in which the Bad News Bucs defeated Maritime's Rugby Club.

On a beautiful day on Buzzards Bay with spring finally in progress, the campus surged with activity, with most departments putting on an activity of some sort. The campus was covered by Advancement with signs that illuminated charity activity and giving in Massachusetts and across the U.S. and various stations were set up on a scavenger trail.

After most classes finished for the day, two teams of 10 descended on Clean Harbors' large gym for a best-of-five tournament. Dodgeball regulars Bad News Bucs took on the Academy's rugby team and earned a 2-0 lead thanks to a bold strategy that paid off for them. However, the rugby lads stormed back to throw a wrench in their plans with a pair a victories. The final game came down to a three-on-two advantage for the Bucs, who stormed to victory with two powerful throws.

Both sides clearly enjoyed the competition, with players delighting in both their teammates and opponents' leaps and lunges. The victors took home a set of wireless speakers, while Maritime Rugby were consoled with t-shirts.
