Kelley Named Athletic Director at MMA

Garin Veris is stepping down as Athletic Director at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy after two and half years of service. During his tenure he brought the Athletic Department to a new level of professionalism and achievement by ensuring that all programs were top quality and led by the best coaching staffs and administrators available. "We were fortunate to have had Garin as our Athletic Director, he will be missed," said Captain Ed Rozak, V.P. of Student Services at the Academy.

"I would like to thank Admiral McDonald for the opportunity to lead the outstanding student-athletes and athletic programs at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy," observed Veris. "I also want to thank my staff for the effort put forth every day to make Massachusetts Maritime Academy Athletics a better place. I have enjoyed the past two and a half years spent at MMA. During this time, I met many new and supportive friends. I look forward to the next chapter in my life and, during this process, I will look back fondly at the time spent on Taylor's Point. Go Bucs!"

With the departure of Veris, the Academy has named Mike Kelley as Acting Athletic Director. "Mike is a 1999 Academy graduate and was a two sport standout athlete in baseball and football. He was elected into the MMA Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009," noted Captain Rozak. He has worked at the Academy for the past twelve years as a Company Officer, Assistant Football and Assistant Baseball Coach and was recently named Head Baseball Coach upon the retirement of longtime Coach Bob Corradi. Athletics and athletic directing runs in Mike's family, with his father Tom the current AD at Framingham State University. Michael is the right person for the job."

Mike is a local resident of the Town of Bourne and resides with his wife Tammy and their two young sons, Ty and Drew.
