Buccaneers Ground Falcons on Senior Day

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – Friday afternoon, the Buccaneers hosted the Fitchburg State Falcons at Clean Harbors Stadium on what was senior day for four graduating Bucs, Hannah Mannai (Keene, N.H.), Jennifer Leung (Quincy, Mass), and captains, Anna Deely (Barnstable, Mass) and Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach, Mass). Maritime controlled the game from the first whistle and won the game, 19-7. In the game, Junior Captain Alyssa DiScipio (Braintree, Mass) reached 100 career points and Deely reached 100 career goals.

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Anna Deely and Alyssa DiScipio led all scorers with six goals each in the win. They also both recorded two assists.
  • Casey Sullivan scored three goals of her own and had an assist.
  • Sophomore Paige Albertson (Nantucket, Mass) had a career night with seven points, including a career-high five assists.
  • Junior Nora McLaughlin (Quincy, Mass) scored twice and had an assist.
  • Deely won a game-high 13 draw controls for the Bucs.
  • Albertson picked up four ground balls to lead all players.
  • Juniors Sarah Smialek (Dartmouth, Mass) and Amanda Gould (Buzzards Bay, Mass) caused a game-high three turnovers each.
  • In goal, Aviva Beringhause (Providence, R.I.) picked up the victory, making three saves and allowing one goal.

 

Fitchburg

  • Eva Kozikowski scored three goals to lead the Falcons.
  • Four others, including senior Nicole Kopacz, each scored a goal.
  • Madison Alves recorded three assists to lead Fitchburg in the loss.
  • Kopacz and Kozikowski each had an assist.
  • Samira El-Hakim picked up a team-high four ground balls.
  • Julia Miele caused three turnovers for the Falcons.
  • Goalie, Francesca Reyes made 13 saves and allowed the 19 Buccaneer goals.

 

How It Happened

  • 42 seconds in to the first half, the Buccaneers broke the scoreless tie with a Sullivan goal, assisted by DiScipio. The assist for DiScipio marked her 100th career point.
  • The Buccaneers went on to score four more unanswered goals, making the score 5-0 five minutes in to the game.
  • Fitchburg put a goal on the board with 22 minutes in the half from Kozikowski.
  • The Bucs controlled the scoring and the game over the following 17 minutes, scoring seven unanswered goals, capped off by Deely's third goal of the game and the 100th of her career.
  • Kozikowski scored again with two minutes left in the half, DiScipio added another for the Bucs with 11 seconds on the clock.
  • At the half, Maritime held a 13-2 lead.
  • Fitchburg opened the scoring in the second half with a Kopacz goa to make the score 13-3.
  • Over the next two minutes, the teams traded DiScipio and Kozikowski goals. The Bucs advantage was 14-4 with 20 minutes to play.
  • After an 8-minute lull in scoring, the Falcons scored their second unanswered to make it 14-5.
  • Maritime ended the two-goal run with 11 minutes left in regulation on a Deely goal.
  • The teams traded goals over the next five minutes, two from Fitchburg, another from Maritime.
  • In the final five minutes of the game, the Buccaneers capped of an impressive team performance with three more goals, including both of Albertson's goals.
  • The Buccaneers sealed the senior day victory, 19-7, over the Falcons.
