Buccaneers Can’t Hold off Rams in Five-Goal Loss

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The Buccaneers played their first of three 2021 home games on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium as they welcomed in the undefeated Framingham State Rams. Though the Bucs fought hard and played well, they were unable to hold off the charging Rams, falling 18-13 to the reigning MASCAC champions.

Inside The Numbers

For The Bucs

  • Captains Alyssa DiScipio (Braintree, Mass) and Anna Deely (Barnstable, Mass) each scored four times for Maritime. DiScipio added three assists, Deely added one of her own.
  • Senior captain Casey Sullivan (Sagamore Beach) scored three times and has two assists.
  • Freshman Cassie Llewellyn (Fairfield, Conn) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with two goals and added two assists.
  • Discipio brought in a game-high six draw controls while Deely and Sullivan each raked in five.
  • Sophomore Paige Albertson (Nantucket, Mass) and Sullivan led the way with four ground balls each.
  • Senior Jennifer Leung (Quincy, Mass) and Deely each caused two turnovers in the loss.
  • In goal, sophomore Aviva Beringhause (Providence, R.I.) made four saves and allowed six goals in the loss.

 

For The Rams

  • Hannah Guerin scored a game-high six goals for Framingham.
  • Hannah McMahon scored three times in the win.
  • Tara Palermo, Rachel Erickson and Jenna McMahon scored twice.
  • Three other players scored one goal for the Rams.
  • Five players recorded two assists with two others tallying an assist each.
  • Palermo won a team-high four draw controls
  • Four Players caused two turnovers each.
  • Goalie Hannah Allen picked up the win and made eight saves, allowing seven goals.

 

How It Happened

  • Framingham opened the game on a three goal run in the first eight minutes.
  • The Bucs answered to bring the game back to 3-2 early.
  • With 14 minutes gone in the first half the teams were knotted at four apiece.
  • Over the next eight minutes, Framingham went on a four-goal run, doubling up the Bucs, 8-4.
  • Maritime closed out the half with a Deely goal with three minutes left before the break. The teams went to the half, Reams leading 8-5.
  • After four minutes in the second half, the Bucs has outscored the Rams in the second half, 2-1, bringing the score to 9-7.
  • Framingham proceeded to go on a 9-0 run over the next 18 minutes, running the score to 18-7.
  • Maritime went on a run of their own, scoring the final six goals of the game, three from DiScipio, but it wasn't enough as the Bucs fell 18-13.

 

What's Next?

The Buccaneers will host Westfield State on Thursday, April 22nd at 4pm at Clean Harbors Stadium. No spectators will be allowed inside the stadium; the game can be watched and followed at mmabucs.com
