Men’s Track Shows out at Fitchburg Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass – Saturday marked the first meet of the 2021 season for Maritime Track & Field. The men began their events at Fitchburg State at 9am and they took the meet by storm with multiple wins, a handful of top three and top five finishes and near record breaking times.

In the 100 meter dash, the Buccaneers claimed two of the top three spots. Sophmore Anthony Childs (Mattapoisett, Mass) claimed the second spot in the event with a time of 11.42. Maritime program record holder and senior captain Brady Bailey (Norwell, Mass) finished right behind Childs with a time of 11.43.

Childs would go on to win the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.74 second. That time was 0.68 seconds faster than the second place finished from host Fitchburg state and was 0.02 seconds slower than the program record in the event, held by Bailey. Bailey finished third in the event with a time of 23.47 second.

In the 800 meter run, junior Alec Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass), won the event with a time of 2:01.06. This broke the Maritime program record in the event which was held by Goldenberg. His previous record in the 800 was 2:04.73.

Cracking the top five in the 1500 meter run, freshman Matthew Pigott (Mashpee, Mass) finished fourth in the event with a time of 4:40.81.

In the team relay events, a maritime team of Bailey, Goldenberg, Childs and senior captain Alex Impreillo (Chelmsford, Mass) won the event with a team time of 3:38.08, more than 11 seconds faster than second place Westfield State.

The Buccaneers have always done well in the throwing events and today was no different. Gerry Mackin (Weymouth, Mass) won the shot put event with a throw of 13.27 meters. Freshman Luke Dawson (East Bridgewater, Mass) finished fourth in the event with a toss of 11.42 meters.

In the discus, junior captain Chris Chaisson (Duxbury, Mass) finished second with a throw of 37.47 meters. Mackin finished fifth in the event with a throw of 33.94 meters.

Chaisson, who also participated in the hammer throw, finished third overall in the event with a 37.27 meter toss.

The Buccaneers will look to carry on their success on Saturday, April 17th at Westfield State. Meet times and details will be posted on the track & field schedule page at mmabucs.com.
