MIDDLETOWN, Conn. --  The Massachusetts Maritime outdoor track & field team began its 2015 season with impressive individual performances at the non-scoring Wesleyan Spring Meet that took place Saturday afternoon on the Andersen Track.

 

Senior Zach Poh (Bridgewater, Mass.) posted a fourth place finish in the men’s shot put for the Buccaneers, as he registered a mark of 11.59 meters, while freshman Jessica Gratzer (Pembroke, Mass.) also finished fourth in the women’s shot put with a mark of 10.36 meters.  Freshmen Kevin O’Leary (Norton, Mass.) and Ian Chester (Rockland, Mass.) tied for fifth place in the high jump for Massachusetts Maritime, posting identical marks of 1.74 meters.

 

Senior E.J. Bennett (East Wareham, Mass.) recorded a sixth place performance in the 400 meters (54.34) for the Buccaneers, who also received sixth place finishes in the shot put (10.66 meters) from freshman Mitch Conroy (Brooklyn, Conn.) and in the triple jump (8.56 meters) from sophomore Emma Ethier (Norton, Mass.).  Sophomore Garrett Loughry (Edgewater, Fla.) was eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.31, while freshman Joseph Carey (Pembroke, Mass.) and senior Sam Hill (Hopkinton, N.H.) finished 9-10 in the 60 meter hurdles with respective times of 9.63 and 9.66 for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a 10th place finishing time of 54.65 in the 400 meters from senior Godfred Mbengam (Randolph, Mass.).

 

The Buccaneers are scheduled to compete at the Tufts Snowflake Classic in Medford, Mass. next Saturday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m.
