BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Vanessa Soto (Fontana, Calif.) rapped out eight hits and drove in seven runs to lead Pine Manor to a sweep of a non-league college softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Thursday afternoon by scores of 19-2 in the opener and 17-0 in the nightcap in five inning contests played at Alison Rollins Field.

The visiting Gators (12-8) recorded 45 hits in the twinbill, including six from junior Macayla Kirylo (Pawtucket, R.I.), who drove in seven runs that also featured a two-run homer in the nightcap.  Freshmen Sybil Lynch (Hoboken, N.J.) and Chardonai Rose (Fairfield, Calif.) also collected six hits each while combining for nine RBI for Pine Manor, which also received six hits off the bat of senior Kaylyn Delgado (Worcester, Mass.).  Senior Tia Nelson (Rockport, Mass.) added five hits at the plate and recorded both victories inside the circle for the Gators, as she allowed nine combined hits and fanned nine to improve to 12-6 on the season.  Pine Manor took control of the opener with a six-run second inning rally and iced that triumph with a nine-run outburst in the fifth, and the visitors used an 11-run second inning output in the nightcap to complete the sweep.

Senior Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) rapped out three hits in the twinbill setback for the host Buccaneers (0-16), as she and fellow senior Rachel Johnson (South Chatham, Mass.) also drove in runs on the day.  Senior Erin Eastman (Harwich, Mass.), along with Johnson and freshmen Marissa Boudreau (New Bedford, Mass.), Brittany Driscoll (Spencer, Mass.), Alyssa Lebo (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Cassie Sanderson (North Dighton, Mass.) recorded safeties.  Beaulieu and freshman Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) suffered the setbacks on the mound for Massachusetts Maritime on the afternoon.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday afternoon to take on Worcester State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader that begins at Noon, while Pine Manor hosts Maine-Presque Isle in a non-league contest on Friday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass. beginning at 3:30 p.m.
