BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Taylor Ezold (Westfield, Mass.) rapped out four hits and drove in three runs to lead Framingham State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime by scores of 15-1 in the opener and 12-0 in the nightcap in a pair of five-inning contests played Friday afternoon at Alison Rollins Field.

 

Freshman Kourtney Kacian (Gardner, Mass.) added two hits and three RBI in the opening game triumph for the visiting Rams (2-10, 2-0 MASCAC), who were the home team on the scoreboard, while sophomore Shelby Phillips (Taunton, Mass.) collected three hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs on the day for Framingham State.  Junior Andrea Smith (Milford, Mass.) chipped in with two hits and three RBI as well for the winners, who also received a pair of RBI from sophomore Kelly Naegelin (Scituate, Mass.) as well as freshmen Jess Anthony (Stoneham, Mass.) and Helen Falzone (Ashland, Mass.).

 

Senior Yaya Faria (Acton, Mass.) picked up the win in the opener for the Rams in allowing a hit and a run while fanning seven, while freshman Alex Ferri (Winthrop, Mass.) earned her first collegiate victory in the nightcap by scattering three hits and striking out four for Framingham State, which collected 20 combined hits in the doubleheader.

 

Senior Meghan Thibeault (Scituate, Mass.) rapped out a pair of hits, including a double, in the setbacks for Massachusetts Maritime, as fellow senior Janelle Beaulieu (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) added a single and scored on a wild pitch in the Buccaneers’ opening at-bat of the day.  Beaulieu and freshman Cassie Swanson (Quincy, Mass.) suffered the setbacks inside the circle for the hosts in posting a combined four strikeouts, as Swanson added a single at the plate.

 

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until Saturday, April 6th when the Buccaneers host Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference twinbill at Alison Rollins Field beginning at Noon, while Framingham State hosts UMass Dartmouth in a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon in Framingham, Mass. beginning at 3:00 p.m.
