Griffin Leads Men's Cross Country To 31st Place Finish At UMass Dartmouth Buddy Harris Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime men’s cross country team posted a 31st place finish, while the Buccaneer women’s squad placed 35th overall at the UMass Dartmouth Buddy Harris Shriners Invitational Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Kevin Griffin (Stoneham, Mass.) led the way on the men’s side by covering the 8K layout in a time of 29:42.90 that was good for 186th place individually, while sophomore Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and freshman Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) were next in 187th and 188th place, respectively, with times of 29:45.01 and 29:46.12.  Freshman William Brady (Woburn, Mass.) and junior Evan Balderelli (Brimfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Buccaneers with times of 30:16.63 and 30:33.64 that were good for 207th and 211th place, respectively.  MIT took top honors in the men’s race with a score of 31 points, while Brandeis (79 points) and Bentley (134 points) followed in respective second and third places.

Senior Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) led the Massachusetts Maritime women by placing 181st overall with a time of 22:06.15 over the 5K layout, while sophomore Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) followed in 212nd place with a time of 23:23.05.  Freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.), sophomore Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) and junior Kaylin Korejwa (Charlotte, Vt.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring by placing 225th, 240th and 241st, respectively with times of 24:06.74, 25:02.23 and 25:03.74.  MIT also took top honors in the women’s race with a score of 25 points, while Coast Guard (109 points) and Wellesley (114 points) finished in second and third place, respectively.

The Massachusetts Maritime men’s squad will be in action next Saturday morning at the UMass Boston Codfish Bowl Invitational at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 11:00 a.m., while the Buccaneer women’s squad travels to Chicopee, Mass. to participate in the Elms Blazer Invitational that also begins at 11:00 a.m.
