Youthful Men's Cross Country Looks To Make Run At Second MASCAC Crown In Six Years

Youth will definitely be served for the Massachusetts Maritime men's cross country team in 2011, as veteran Head Coach Chris Ryan's roster is dotted by nine underclassmen as the Buccaneers make a run at their second MASCAC crown in six years this fall.

Ryan, who guided Massachusetts Maritime to its first league title in 2005, will look to his only two juniors for leadership, as Evan Balderelli (Brimfield, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) and Rob Bergonzi (Quincy, Mass./Quincy) will serve as co-captains for the Buccaneers this season. Ryan describes the duo as "leaders who will help guide an extremely young team in a very positive direction."

Sophomores Kevin Griffin (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham), Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass./Bancroft School) and James Murray (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) join Bergonzi and Balderelli as returning letterwinners for Ryan's squad, which finished fourth at last year's MASCAC Championships.

Freshmen Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass./Quabbin Regional), Alexander Barnas (Easton, Pa./Easton Area), William Brady (Woburn, Mass./Woburn), Sam Hill (Hopkinton, N.H./Hopkinton) and Godfred Mbengam (Randolph, Mass./Randolph) will be looking to make an immediate impact on the program as newcomers in 2011.
