WORCESTER, Mass. --  Junior Jeff Wong (Millington, N.J.) recorded his fourth shutout win of the season in goal, as WPI received three tallies in a nine-minute span early in the second half to post a 3-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Alumni Field.

Freshman Christopher Murray (Canton, Mass.) gave the host Engineers (10-4) the only goal they would need in the 57th minute after converting a feed from senior Sean Galligan (Weymouth, Mass.), and WPI added a pair of markers in a 1:43 span to ice its triumph, as senior Stephen Partridge (Worcester, Mass.) converted an assist from fellow senior Jason Hopkins (Mendon, Mass.) in the 66th minute before freshman Connor King (Douglas, Mass.) closed out the scoring in the 67th minute on a feed from sophomore Eric Crevoiserat (Glastonbury, Conn.).

Wong picked up his ninth victory of the season without having to make a save for the Engineers, while senior Patrick Slaney (Northbridge, Mass.) suffered the setback in net for the visiting Buccaneers (6-6-2), as he made five saves in a 21-minute span in relief of senior Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) who made two stops in the first 50-plus minutes of action.  Sophomore Andrew Brown (Bel Air, Md.) made one save over the final 18-plus minutes of play for Massachusetts Maritime, as WPI outshot the Buccaneers by a 16-7 margin while holding a 5-4 edge in corners for the evening.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Salem State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon, while WPI heads to Paxton, Mass. on Friday afternoon to take on Anna Maria in a non-league match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
