BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Hieu Nguyen's (Weymouth, Mass.) goal 8:23 into play held up as the game-winner and lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 1-0 non-league college men's soccer victory over Curry in the season opener for both schools Friday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Nguyen converted a feed from sophomore Rob Robbs (Braintree, Mass.) against a strong wind that gave the host Buccaneers (1-0) the only marker they would need, and senior Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made that margin stand up in goal with a five-save effort to record his third career shutout.

Senior Nick Barber (Pittsfield, Mass.) made 12 stops in suffering the setback in goal for the visiting Colonels (0-1), as both he and Young made a pair of point blank saves each over the final 20-plus minutes of play.  Massachusetts Maritime outshot Curry by a 15-11 margin for the contest, including an 8-5 edge over the final 45 minutes of action.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Curry heads to Fitchburg, Mass. on Wednesday evening to take on Fitchburg State in a non-league match that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
