Massachusetts Maritime freshman Jacob Tavares was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Rookie of the Week on Sunday afternoon for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ 42-35 Admiral’s Cup setback to Maine Maritime at Clean Harbors Stadium over the weekend.

Tavares, a native of New Bedford, Mass. and a graduate of Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical High School, made five solo tackles while forcing and recovering a fumble against the Mariners.

Massachusetts Maritime, which stands at 1-1 overall on the season, opens Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 24^th when Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Buccaneers host Worcester State at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon EDT.
