Phillips, Quinn Named As MASCAC Football Offensive, Special Teams Players Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime junior running back Richie Phillips and senior placekicker Ryan Quinn were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week on Sunday afternoon for their efforts in the Buccaneers’ come-from-behind 28-24 victory at SUNY-Maritime in Chowder Bowl IX last Friday evening.

Phillips, a native of Onset, Mass. and a graduate of Old Rochester Regional High School, rushed for a career-high 100 yards on just 15 carries (6.7 yards per attempt) and scored a career-best three touchdowns, including the game-winner from four yards out with 24 seconds remaining.  He added a five-yard scoring scamper with 4:24 to play in the rivalry clash to help Massachusetts Maritime erase a 10-point fourth quarter deficit while also hauling in a pair of receptions for 22 yards.  Richie accounted for all but 59 of the Buccaneers’ team rushing yardage total for the contest, and his other touchdown of the night came on a 10-yard run early in the second quarter.

Quinn, a native of North Andover, Mass. and a graduate of North Andover High School, converted all four of his extra point attempts and averaged 48 yards on six kickoffs on the evening.  The MASCAC accolade is the third of Ryan’s career and first since November 2014 when he was honored following Massachusetts Maritime’s 31-21 victory in the 36th Annual Ocean Spray Cranberry Bowl.

Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s Buccaneers have now won the Chowder Bowl over the Privateers in three of the last four seasons, and his squad looks to regain the coveted Admiral’s Cup from Maine Maritime when the rivals meet in the 44th edition of the contest on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
