Skeffington Named As MASCAC Football Offensive Co-Player Of The Week Following Record Setting Chowder Bowl Performance

Massachusetts Maritime senior quarterback Brad Skeffington was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday afternoon for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ season-opening 48-13 victory over SUNY-Maritime in the Eighth Annual Chowder Bowl played last Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

A native of Salem, Mass. and a graduate of Salem High School, Skeffington accounted for six total touchdowns in the contest, as he threw for a school-record five scores and added a second quarter rushing touchdown as part of 331 yards of total offense.  In his first career start as the Buccaneers’ signal caller, Skeffington completed 19-of-29 passing attempts for 254 yards and the record-breaking five scoring strikes of 58, 23, 34, seven and three yards, and he was also the game’s leading rusher with 77 yards on 17 carries.  Brad ignited a run of 41 unanswered points for Head Coach Jeremy Cameron’s squad in the second and third quarters, as he only played the first 45 minutes of the rivalry clash.

Skeffington, who shared the MASCAC award with Western Connecticut running back Michael Nicol, broke a single-game mark that was shared by five quarterbacks, as Hall of Famer Jim O’Neill first turned the trick of four touchdown passes in 1981 against Boston State.  Recent Buccaneer standout John Trudel most recently tied the mark last October against UMass Dartmouth before Skeffington set the new standard on Friday night.

For the first time in school history, Massachusetts Maritime is in simultaneous possession of all three trophies in its annual rivalry games:  the Chowder Bowl, the Admiral’s Cup and The Scoop (Cranberry Bowl vs. Bridgewater State).  The Buccaneers will look to retain the Admiral’s Cup for a fifth straight season on Saturday afternoon when they pay a visit to Castine, Maine to take on Maine Maritime in the 43rd edition of the annual clash that kicks off at Noon EDT.
