Massachusetts Maritime sophomore running back Kenny Pierce’s 51-yard touchdown run in the second quarter of last Saturday's 35-31 come-from-behind victory at Worcester State is one of four nominees for this week’s Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Fan Play of the Week.

Fans can visit www.mascac.com and click on the Football Fan Play of the Week page to vote for Kenny's effort, which came as part of a 202-yard performance that saw him tie the school single-game record with four total rushing touchdowns, including the game-winner from 30 yards out midway through the fourth quarter.  Voting is open until Noon on Wednesday, and this week’s winner will be announced by the conference office later that afternoon.  Fitchburg State, Framingham State and Western Connecticut are the other three schools competing for this week’s top play.

Pierce, who was named as the MASCAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's triumph, has established himself as one of the top running backs nationally in Division III over the first three weeks of the season, as he ranks sixth in scoring (42 points), seventh in rushing yards per carry (8.87), eighth in both rushing touchdowns (7) and rushing yards per game (162.7), 17th in all-purpose yards per game (185.67) and 18th in total rushing yards (488) in the Division III national rankings through three contests. Pierce has rushed for nearly 500 yards (488) in the first three games of the season and has visited the end zone seven times over the last two weeks, as he ran for a career-high 212 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-41 Admiral’s Cup setback at Maine Maritime on September 19th. Kenny, who entered last weekend leading all rushers nationally in Division III in yards gained per attempt, has run for 1,022 yards on just 131 carries in 13 career contests (7.8 yds per rush) while scoring 11 touchdowns.
