2020-2021 Academic Dean’s Award & Athletics Director’s Academic Achievement Awards

2020-2021 Academic Dean’s Award & Athletics Director’s Academic Achievement Awards

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass – The awards we are presenting today are for the Academic Dean's Awards and the Athletics Director's Academic Achievement Awards.

We begin with the Academic Dean's Award which was established in 2000 to honor the senior student-athlete with the highest grade point average among all senior student-athletes who has persevered in athletics as well as in academics, combining outstanding academic achievement with athletic accomplishment, and this year's recipients certainly embody those qualities.

It is with great pleasure that we present the 2021 Academic Dean's Award to Emergency Management major Lucia Buzzell! Lucia was a four-year member of the Buccaneer softball team, two-year president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and in her senior year she served in the Regiment of Cadets as the Second Company Commander and Emergency Management Operations Officer. Lucia graduates from the academy with an impressive 3.93 grade point average in the classroom and an impressive career on the softball field including her sophomore season in which she had 13 hits, 13 runs scored, three doubles, two triples, and a home run to go along with 5 RBI and 16 walks with a .370 on-base percentage from the leadoff spot in the Buccaneer lineup.

Congratulations, Lucia Buzzell on your outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the field.

Next is the Athletics Director's Academic Achievement awards which are presented to members of the senior class for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom throughout their career. In order to be eligible for this award a student-athlete must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher in their major. Congratulations to these 34 senior student-athletes representing all seven of the Academy's majors and 13 different sports!
