Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth at MASCAC Championships
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass – Saturday afternoon, the Buccaneer women's cross country team travelled to Mt. Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts to compete in the MASCAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by MCLA. Of the seven schools that competed for the title, the Buccaneers finished in fifth place, with Worcester State taking the crown.
Maritime freshman, Camryn Boyce (Whitman, Mass) and Lily Hakkarainen (Cheasterfield, N.H.) were the top two finishers for Maritime, finishing in 27th and 31st place overall, 21st and 22nd place in scoring, with times of 22:49.47 and 23:01.57 respectively. Freshman Sarah Smialek (Dartmouth, Mass) finished third for the Bucs, 39th overall and 28th in scoring with a finishing time of 23:27.10. In fourth place for the Bucs, 55th overall and 33rd in scoring, freshman, Victoria Flausino (Philadelphia, Penn) finished her day at 24:56.05. Rounding out the scoring for Maritime was junior Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass) with a time of 26:44.36. As a team, the Buccaneers racked up a total time of 2:00:58.55, taking fifth place in front of Fitchburg State by nearly nine minutes, missing out on fourth place by eight minutes.
Worcester State's Elisabeth Olson won the individual title with a final time of 20:03.86. Her team also took the overall win with a total time of 1:45:23.23, just 15 minutes ahead of the Buccaneers.
