Burbank, Piche Pace Women's Cross Country To Solid Ninth Place Finish At Emmanuel Saints Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country squads posted solid performances at the rain swept Seventh Annual Emmanuel Saints Invitational on Friday afternoon at Franklin Park, as the Buccaneer women placed ninth of 17 teams and the Buccaneer men finished 11th of 16 teams entered in the competition.

Senior Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) paced Massachusetts Maritime on the women’s side by posting a time of 22:41 over the 5K layout that was good for 35th place individually, while sophomore Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) followed in 60th place with a time of 24:08.  Sophomore Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) and junior Corinne Prado (Raynham, Mass.) were next in 66th and 67th place, respectively, with times of 24:42 and 24:47, while freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) closed out the Buccaneer scoring by placing 75th with a time of 25:09.  Lesley took top honors in the team competition with a score of 51 points, while Babson (61 points) and Worcester State (65 points) followed in the runner-up and third place spots, respectively.

On the men’s side, freshman William Brady (Woburn, Mass.) led Massachusetts Maritime by finishing 32nd over the 7.95K layout with a time of 30:03, while sophomore Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) followed in 52nd place with a time of 31:04.  Freshman Brenton Andrews (Hubbardston, Mass.) and sophomore Kevin Griffin (Stoneham, Mass.) were next in 59th and 62nd place, respectively, with times of 31:28 and 31:36, while freshman Godfred Mbengam (Randolph, Mass.) rounded out the Buccaneer scoring with a time of 31:43 that was good for 67th place individually.  Johnson & Wales took top honors in the men’s competition with a score of 35 points, while Babson (48 points) and Lesley (131 points) followed in the respective runner-up and third place spots.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will be idle until Saturday, October 29th when the Buccaneers will compete for their respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference titles as part of the 15th Annual New England Alliance Championships that will be held on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.  The 27th Annual MASCAC women’s championship race begins at 11:00 a.m., while the 41st Annual MASCAC men’s championship race follows at Noon.
