Bucs Lose close match to Wildcats on the Road

LONGMEADOW, Mass -- The Buccaneers traveled to Western Mass Thursday evening for a non-conference matchup with the Bay Path Wildcats. After dropping the first set, the Bucs won the second

Inside The Numbers

Maritime

  • Senior captain Izabella Mackintosh and freshman Gemma Geisler led the Bucs with eight kills each.
  • Shayla Narodowg was top on the Bucs in assists with 23 and led all players with six service aces. 
  • Marlo Stark led the Buccaneers defensively with 10 digs.
  • At the net, Chloe Johnson continues to rack up the blocks with two block assists in the match. Mackintosh, Sydney McCarthy, Narodowg, and Geisler each added a block assist.
  • In total, the Bucs tallied 27 kills with a .081 hitting percentage, 14 service aces, 34 digs and three blocks in the match.

Bay Path

  • Anastaya Tsetko led all players with 23 kills.
  • Kyle Finch was the match leader in assists with 25. 
  • Three Wildcats had four service aces. 
  • Zyiasia Knighton led the way with 23 digs defensively. 
  • McKenzie Labier recorded a solo block and two block assists. Four other players recorded block assists in the match.
  • In total, the Wildcats recorded 46 kills with a .252 hitting percentage, 16 service aces, 39 digs, and six blocks.

How It Happened

Bay Path jumped out to an early and large lead in the first set and went on to win the first game 25-15. 

In the second game, the Buccaneers did the same to the Wildcats that had happened to them in the first set. The Buccaneers flew out to a 25-18 victory to tie the match at 1-1.

The third set was a barn burner as it took extra points to decide the game. The Bucs had a late lead, 23-21, in the game and the Wildcats came back to win the set 26-24 to take a 2-1 lead.

In the third set, Bay Path took control and finished the match the way they started, by a 25-15 score to win the match three games to one.

What's Next

The Buccaneers are back home on Saturday for a tri-match with Fisher and Lesley beginning with their match against Fisher at 11am and their second match against Lesley at 3pm.
