BUZZARDS BAY, MA -- Coming off their comeback, overtime win over Nichols midweek, the Buccaneers played host to Curry College on Saturday at Clean Harbors Stadium. Down four goals at the end of the third, the Bucs controlled the fourth quarter, attempting a comeback that fell short by one goal, 12-11, to the Colonels.

How It Happened

Durgin put the Bucs up 1-0 in the first 30 seconds of the game. The Buccaneers controlled much of the next three minutes and couldn't score to open the lead. Curry took advantage of their possessions following a shift in momentum and scored four unanswered goals over a six-minute period to take a 4-1 lead with 4:36 left in the first. With two goals from DiScipio and another from Durgin, Maritime tied the game at 4-4 with just over a minute left in the quarter. The teams would go to the second with the game knotted at fours.

In the second, there were only two goals scored, both from Curry. They book ended the quarter with a goal in the first three minutes and one in the final two minutes to take a 6-4 lead into the halftime break.

With a heavy fog settling in over Taylor's Point, the team scored a combined six goals in the third quarter. Curry started where they left off at the end of the first half scoring two goals to make it four unanswered. With 13:21 left in the third, the colonels held an 8-4 lead over their hosts. McLaughlin sprinkled in a goal between Curry goals to break up the streak at the 9:53 mark to make the score 8-5. Curry went on two score two more unanswered, from Orr and Murray, to take a five-goal lead, 10-5, with 4:23 left in the third. McLaughlin then scored her second with 2:27 and a Colonel in the sin bin to pull within four, 10-6, at the end of three quarters of play.

In the fourth, the Buccaneers grabbed hold of the game and forced their way back into it. Curry scored the first goal of the quarter a minute in. Down 11-6, the Buccaneers scored two to get within three. Curry scored one more to go up four again, 12-8. In the final seven minutes, the Bucs attempted a big comeback, and it was going well. DiScipio scored twice in a minute with a Colonel on a yellow to get within two, 12-10. With 6:20, Dickinson scored her goal to get within one. Though the Buccaneers saw multiple opportunities in the final six minutes, the Curry defense stood strong and didn't allow Maritime to tie the game. Holding the ball to run the clock out, Curry would go on to win, 12-11, in the fog in Buzzards Bay.
