Hunt Nets School Record 10 Points As Women's Lacrosse Opens MASCAC Action With 20-4 Triumph Over MCLA

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- Sophomore Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) netted six goals and added four assists for a school single-game record 10 points to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 20-4 victory over MCLA in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
The host Buccaneers (4-2, 1-0 MASCAC) snapped a 1-1 tie by scoring 10 unanswered goals, including three off the stick of Hunt, to build a 13-2 advantage at the break, and Massachusetts Maritime notched the first four tallies after intermission to ice its triumph. Junior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.) added a hat trick and three assists to finish with six points for the winners, who also received a hat trick and two helpers from junior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.). Senior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.) and freshman Erica Overstreet (Bridgewater, Mass.) each netted hat tricks and single assists for four points for the Buccaneers, who also received a marker and two helpers from junior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.). Junior Kianna Carpenter (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) accounted for the other score of the day for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received an assist off the stick of junior Stephanie O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.).
Junior Natalie Caney (Belchertown, Mass.) collected a hat trick in the setback for the visiting Trailblazers (2-4, 0-1 MASCAC), who also received a goal from sophomore Mackenzie Cutler (East Amherst, N.Y.) and a pair of assists from sophomore Taylor Brewer (Bennington, Vt.). Sophomore Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Massachusetts Maritime with a six-save effort, while freshman Zoe Elwell (Clifton Park, N.Y.) made 12 stops in the setback for MCLA as the Buccaneers outshot the Trailblazers by a 35-17 margin overall (32-10 on goal) while holding a 17-9 edge in draw controls for the contest.
Massachusetts Maritime heads to Leicester, Mass. on Thursday evening to square off with Becker in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while MCLA travels to Bennington, Vt. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Southern Vermont in a non-league match beginning at 4:00 p.m.
