Hunt, Overstreet Named As MASCAC Women's Lacrosse Player, Rookie Of The Week
Massachusetts Maritime sophomore attack Stephanie Hunt and freshman midfielder Erica Overstreet were named as the respective Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon for their performances in the Buccaneers’ 20-4 victory over MCLA last Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.
Hunt, a native of Brookfield, Conn. and a graduate of Brookfield High School, netted six goals and four assists for a school single-game record 10 points in the triumph for Head Coach Leslie Bushy’s squad, as she leads Massachusetts Maritime in scoring with 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points in six contests to date. Stephanie also stands just 15 points shy of the 100-career point plateau, as she has amassed 58 goals and 27 assists for 85 points in 20 career matches.
Overstreet, a native of Bridgewater, Mass. and a graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School, notched her second hat trick of the spring while adding an assist to finish with four points in the win over the Trailblazers, as she ranks fourth on the team in scoring with 11 markers and five helpers for 16 points.
Bushy’s Buccaneers, who are enjoying the best start in the program’s five-year varsity intercollegiate history at 4-2 overall, return to action on Thursday, April 7th when Massachusetts Maritime heads to Leicester, Mass. to take on Becker in a non-league match that begins at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
