FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --  Goals by junior Jepherson Cardoso (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Ronaldo Vieira (Framingham, Mass.) backed a 16-save effort in goal by junior Sam Yoder (Southbridge, Mass.) that lifted Framingham State to a 2-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at Maple Street Field.

Vieira gave the host Rams (1-3-1, 1-0 MASCAC) the only marker they would need in the 25th minute of play when he converted a penalty kick after a foul in the box, and Cardoso converted a feed from freshman Cory Cardeiro (Westport, Mass.) in the 74th minute to provide an insurance tally for Framingham State.  Yoder took care of the rest in goal for the hosts, making eight saves in each half to record his first shutout of the season.

Sophomore Brett Young (Falmouth, Mass.) made 12 saves, including six in each half, in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (0-5, 0-1 MASCAC), who outshot the Rams by a 21-17 margin for the contest, including an 11-8 edge over the final 45 minutes of play.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until next Saturday evening (September 24th) when the Buccaneers head to Westfield, Mass. to take on Westfield State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match that begins at 6:00 p.m., while Framingham State travels to Babson Park, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Babson in a non-league outing that begins at 4:00 p.m.
