Gustafson Named As New England Football Conference Special Teams Player Of The Week

Massachusetts Maritime sophomore defensive back and kick return specialist Stefan Gustafson was named on Saturday evening as the New England Football Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in the Buccaneers’ season-opening 19-14 victory over Western New England at Clean Harbors Stadium.

A native of Plymouth, Mass. and a graduate of Plymouth South High School, Gustafson returned four punts for 66 yards, including a 54-yard touchdown return late in the third quarter that proved to be the winning score.  Gustafson, who amassed nine total punt return yards during the 2010 season in which he was named as the NEFC Bogan Division Defensive Rookie of the Year, chipped in with four total tackles (three solo) and a pair of pass break-ups in the triumph over the Golden Bears.

Massachusetts Maritime, which has won six of its last nine contests dating back to last September 17th, will host MIT for 2011 Homecoming festivities on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at Noon EDT.
