PAXTON, Mass. --  Sophomore Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) netted a hat trick, while fellow sophomore Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.) added a pair of goals and two assists to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 15-6 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Anna Maria Saturday afternoon at Amcat Field.

 

Anderson tallied twice in the opening 9:13 of action in leading the visiting Buccaneers (5-2) to a 4-1 edge after the first quarter of play, and Massachusetts Maritime used a six-goal run (including both of Collins’s markers) in a 7:38 stretch of the second stanza en route to a 12-2 advantage at the break.  Eleven different players scored on the day for the visitors, as sophomore Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) also netted a pair for the Buccaneers, who received goals from senior Dylan Freudenberg (Islip, N.Y.), juniors Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) and Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.), sophomores Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) and Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.) as well as freshmen Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.), Robert Steinweg (Arnold, Md.) and Robert Macarthy (Winchester, Mass.).

 

Junior Sean Staples (Norwell, Mass.), along with sophomore Conor Greaney (Milton, Mass.) and freshmen Paul Frost (Tiverton, R.I.) and Cody Parks (Plymouth, Mass.), registered assists in the triumph for Massachusetts Maritime, which posted its fifth victory in 11 days.  Freshman Michael Rodriguez (Cranston, R.I.) collected a pair of goals in the setback for the host Amcats (1-5), who also received tallies from senior Nathan Batallas (Templeton, Mass.), junior Alex Rezendes (Nantucket, Mass.) and freshmen Andrew Marcotte (Plainville, Mass.) and Jonathan McDonald (Marlboro, Mass.) as well as a helper off the stick of senior Dennis Tran (Worcester, Mass.).

 

Junior James Klose (Ellicott City, Md.) picked up his fourth win of the season in goal with a pair of first half saves for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received five stops from sophomore Jacob Brennan (North Reading, Mass.) in 20-plus minutes of relief action.  Junior Joseph Morris (Medford, Mass.) made 18 saves in the setback for Anna Maria, as the Buccaneers outshot the Amcats by a 53-27 margin overall (33-13 on goal) and forced 35 turnovers on the afternoon.

 

Massachusetts Maritime travels to Salem, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on Salem State in a non-league outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while Anna Maria entertains Regis in a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon at Amcat Field beginning at 5:00 p.m.
