Freudenberg, Kurylak Named As 2015 Men's Lacrosse Co-Captains
Despite the on-going snow, ice and cold that is pervading the Cape Cod landscape, the Massachusetts Maritime men’s lacrosse team is set to take the field in four short weeks, and as Head Coach Rory Deegan continues preparations for his fifth campaign in Buzzards Bay, the Buccaneer mentor announced that senior Dylan Freudenberg and junior Anthony Kurylak have been named as co-captains for the 2015 season.
Freudenberg, a native of Islip, N.Y. and a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School, is set to serve in the captain’s role for a third straight season this spring. The attacker is Massachusetts Maritime’s top returning scorer after netting 25 goals and 12 assists for 37 points in 2014, as he topped the 100-career point plateau with that performance. Freudenberg, who also serves as president of the Buccaneer Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, has notched 76 career goals while adding 31 assists for 107 points entering his final collegiate campaign.
Kurylak, a native of Exeter, N.H. and a graduate of Portsmouth High School, has been a valuable member of Deegan’s midfield corps over his first two seasons in a Buccaneer uniform. Kurylak netted 13 goals and five assists for 18 points as a sophomore in 2014 after collecting 17 markers and 27 points as a rookie, and along the way he has also picked up 34 ground balls and caused 12 turnovers.
“Dylan and Anthony have a solid veteran presence and are effective leaders both on and off the field,” Deegan, a former standout at Division I Manhattan, says of his captains. “They have earned the respect of their teammates, and they demand excellence that this program strives to attain in athletic competition and academic performance.”
Massachusetts Maritime, which posted seven overall victories for the second time in three seasons last spring, begins its 2015 slate on Saturday, March 7th when the Buccaneers entertain Albertus Magnus in a non-league match at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 2:00 p.m. EST.
