
Estrada, Velzis, and Loughren go Yard in Win over Dean
BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- Bucs baseball scored eight runs in the first inning of their game against Dean on Tuesday en route to a 15-3 win over the Bulldogs at Hendy Field.

How It Happened
Maritime scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to a commanding lead. Velzis drove in the first run when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Estrada came up two hitters later and hit his first-career grand slam. Then, in his second at-bat of the inning, Cole doubled with the bases loaded and drove in all three runners. The Bucs led 8-0 after one inning of play.
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs found their way onto the scoreboard, getting a run in the top of the fourth inning on a Cavas single to make the score 8-1. In the bottom of the inning, the Buccaneers added two runs on Velzis's third homer of the season and took a 10-1 lead.
The Bucs added three more in the bottom of the fifth on Loughren's first home run and went up 13-1 after five.
In the top of the sixth, Dean scraped another run across the plate when Favate singled to left field to make it a 13-2 game.
Maritime scored two more in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly and a bases-loaded walk to take a 15-2 lead after seven.
In the top of the ninth, Dean got one more run on a sacrifice fly. The Bucs finished off the innings after the run and went above .500 for the first time this season at 8-7 with the 15-3 victory.
What's Next
The Bucs open conference play this weekend against Westfield State. The three-game series opens up on Friday with the Owls coming to Buzzards Bay for a 4pm first pitch.
