Mariners Sink Bucs in Connecticut
NEW LONDON, CT -- Maritime Baseball traveled to Mitchell College on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup with the number four team in New England. The Bucs mustered three runs but ultimately lost to a very good Mitchell team 18-3.

Maritime
- Brett Velzis and AJ Pietrafesa each had two hits in the game.
- Carson Butler, Jake Quillen, Josh Kutcher, Jake Houston, and Grady Freeman each had one hit. Freeman's hit was the first of his career.
- Quillen and Freeman each had a double, Houston hit a triple, and Velzis hit his third home run of the season.
- Velzis drove in two runs, Quillen drove in the third.
Mitchell
- Dougie DelaCruz and Matt Falk both had four hits in the game.
- Bo Yaworski and Lelo Martinez each had three hits in the win.
- Angel Galindez and Owen Robbins had two hits, Robbie DelaCruz added one hit.
- DelaCruz hit for the cycle in the game with a single, double, triple, and home run. Falk Also homered. Martinez had two doubles, Yaworski and Robbins each hit a double.
- Justin Adorno was credited with a stolen base.
- DelaCruz drove in eight runs and scored five times.
How It Happened
Robins got the Mariners on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run double to make it 2-0.
In the top of the second, Quillen doubled to drive in Pietrafesa to cut the Mitchell lead in half. In the bottom of the second frame, Mitchell scored five to make it 7-1 Mariners.
In the bottom of the third, DelaCruz hit a three-run home run to make it 10-1. Mitchell added on in the bottom of the fourth with four runs including two on Falk's home run.
The Buccaneers added two runs in the top of the fifth on Velzis's two-run home run scoring him and Freeman.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Mariners added three more runs and tacked on another in the bottom of the sixth to earn the 18-3 win over the Buccaneers.
What's Next
Maritime opens a three-game conference series with Fitchburg State on the road on Friday at 4pm. They return home on Saturday for a conference doubleheader with the Falcons beginning at noon.
