Bucs Lose to the Bears by the Bay

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass -- The Buccaneers hosted Coast Guard on Thursday at home in the first of four games over the next four days. Last season, the teams played to a 3-2 final in favor of the Bears. This season, the game ended in a one run win for the Bears again, this time by a final of 2-1.

At The Plate

Maritime

  • Brett Velzis led all players with three hits including a double. He also drove in the only run for the Bucs.
  • Zach Sylvia and Tucker Leslie each had one hit.
  • Sylvia scored the only run of the game in the loss.

Coast Guard 

  • John Carroll and Wyatt Duthu each had two hits in the game.
  • Blake Carroll, Greg Boland, Parker Madden, and Luke Percifield all had one hit.
  • John Carroll and Boland drove in the runs for the Bears.
  • Blake Carroll and Duthu each had a double.
  • Blake Carrol scored both runs.
  • Blake Carroll stole the lone base of the game.

How It Happened

Coast Guard scored in the top of the first inning on a John Carroll Single that scored Blake Carrol to give the Bears an early 1-0 lead. 

From the bottom of the first to the top of the sixth the game turned in to a pitcher's duel and defensive battle. Then, in the bottom of the sixth, the Bucs tied the game up on a Velzis single down the right field to bring in Sylvia. 

The team remained tied until the top of the ninth when Boland singled to center field to bring in Blake Carroll for the second Bears run of the game. Priddy allowed a base runner in the bottom of the ninth but left him on third as the Bears secured the 2-1 win over the Buccaneers.
