BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Tyler Genereux (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Keith Sanchez (Monroe Township, N.J.) combined for 22 strikeouts in 13 innings of work on the mound to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a sweep of a non-league college baseball doubleheader from Rivier on Sunday afternoon by scores of 3-1 in the opener and 11-1 in the nightcap in games played at Commodore Hendy Field.

Genereux went the distance in the opener for the host Buccaneers (4-3), as he scattered five hits and struck out a career-high 12 while retiring the first 10 batters he faced.  Massachusetts Maritime gave Genereux all the support he would need in the bottom of the third when seniors Sarkis Nahigian (North Falmouth, Mass.) and Michael Vargas (Framingham, Mass.) reached on a single and walk, respectively, and scored on a two-out double off the bat of fellow senior Nick Levitre (Grafton, Mass.), who then scored on a throwing error.  The visiting Raiders (0-4) got a run back in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by sophomore Kyle Bowser (Newington, N.H.), but Genereux allowed just two hits over the final three-plus innings to earn his first victory of the season.

Seniors Greg Wiggin (Marshfield, Mass.) and Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.), along with sophomore Aram Mulhern (Taunton, Mass.), added hits in the opening game triumph for the Buccaneers, while sophomore Aramis Velez (Lowell, Mass.) collected two hits in the opener for Rivier, as junior Kevin Weaver (Hudson, N.H.) allowed five hits and fanned three in going the distance and suffering the setback on the mound for the Raiders.

Massachusetts Maritime jumped out to a 7-0 second inning lead in the nightcap, as the Buccaneers rapped out 11 hits to complete the sweep.  Mulhern and fellow sophomore Zachary Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.) each collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Buccaneers, who also received two hits from junior Andrew DiNisco (Malden, Mass.) and a pair of RBI off the bat of Vargas.  Sanchez followed up Genereux’s performance with a two-hit gem of his own over six innings, as he struck out a career-high 10 in earning his first collegiate victory.  Bowser broke up the shutout for Rivier by lacing a lead-off triple and scoring on a wild pitch in the seventh, as freshman Nathan Knoetig (Manchester, N.H.) allowed four earned runs over the first three innings in suffering the setback for the Raiders.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Gordon in a non-league outing on Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Rivier heads to Worcester, Mass. to take on Clark in a non-league contest on Friday afternoon that begins at 3:00 p.m.
