BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Cameron Carroll’s (Reno, Nev.) two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth snapped a 6-6 tie and lifted Coast Guard to a 7-6 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field.

The visiting Bears (13-7) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to take a 6-3 advantage with a four-run sixth inning outburst, as a two-run single by sophomore Riley Beecher (Elgin, Tex.), an RBI double by sophomore Nolan Gallagher (New Milford, Conn.) and a three-base error gave the visitors the three-run cushion.  The host Buccaneers (5-4) answered back with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the frame to pull back to within one by scoring on a wild pitch and a throwing error, and Massachusetts Maritime evened matters in the seventh when senior Nick Levitre (Grafton, Mass.) led off the inning with a triple and scored on sophomore Zachary Sullivan’s (Barnstable, Mass.) sacrifice fly.  Coast Guard’s deciding ninth inning rally began when junior Eddie Kalankiewicz (San Diego, Calif.) led off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch, and after the next two Bears were retired, Carroll lined a 2-2 pitch into right for the game-winning hit to extend the visitors’ winning streak to four straight.

Coast Guard grabbed a 1-0 third inning lead when sophomore Joe Petry (Worcester, Mass.) tripled and scored on a throwing error, but the Buccaneers took advantage of a three-base error to score twice in the bottom of the frame for a 2-1 lead, and the hosts extended that margin to 3-1 in the fourth on an RBI double off the bat of junior William Shouldice (Rutland, Vt.).  The Bears cut their deficit to one in the fifth on an RBI groundout by senior Graham Sherman (Richmond, Va.), setting up the late inning fireworks that saw the squads combine for eight runs.

Sherman, Gallagher and Beecher each had two hits as part of an 11-hit attack for Coast Guard, as senior Jesse Karr (Milan, Mich.) picked up his third victory in four decisions by working a scoreless eighth for the Bears.  Sophomore Tyler Vieira (Dumfries, Va.) retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save for the visitors, as sophomore Curt Barrett (Bremen, Ga.) allowed an earned run over the first five frames.  Sullivan, Shouldice, senior Michael Vargas (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Tyler Genereux (Duxbury, Mass.) each collected two hits as part of a 12-hit attack in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, as freshman Nick Thomas (Brockton, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the Buccaneers in relief of senior Corey Murphy (East Wareham, Mass.), who allowed four earned runs and fanned three over 5 1/3 innings for the hosts.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Medford, Mass. on Wednesday afternoon to take on Tufts in a non-league outing that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Coast Guard hosts MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference contest on Friday afternoon in New London, Conn. beginning at 3:30 p.m.
