Burbank Leads Women's Cross Country To 28th Place Team Finish At Westfield State James Earley Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime women’s cross country team finished 28th of 38 teams competing at the 16th Annual Westfield State James Earley Invitational on Saturday morning at Stanley Park.

Senior Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) paced the Buccaneers over the 5K layout with a time of 21:57.50 that was good for 134th place individually, while sophomore Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) and freshman Tenley Gillett (Manchester, N.H.) followed in 192nd and 201st place, respectively, with times of 23:14.08 and 23:23.70.  Juniors Corinne Prado (Raynham, Mass.) and Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) rounded out the Massachusetts Maritime scoring by posting times of 23:47.56 and 24:14.18 that were good for 216th and 234th place, respectively, in a field of 354 runners.

Coast Guard took top honors in team competition with a score of 68 points, while Westfield State and LeMoyne followed in the runner-up and third place spots, respectively, with scores of 85 and 127 points.

Massachusetts Maritime will be idle until Saturday, October 29th when the Buccaneers compete at the 27th Annual Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships that will take place as part of the New England Alliance Championships in North Dartmouth, Mass. beginning at 11:00 a.m.
