Burbank, Piche Lead Women's Cross Country To Solid Sixth Place Finish At Elms Blazer Invitational

CHICOPEE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime women’s cross country team posted a solid sixth place finish among 15 teams competing on Saturday morning at the Elms Blazer Invitational.

Senior Emily Burbank (Yarmouthport, Mass.) paced the Buccaneers individually by covering the 5K layout in a time of 22:07 that was good for 29th place, while sophomores Jenelle Piche (Coventry, R.I.) and Liz Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) followed in 54th and 60th place, respectively, with times of 23:56 and 24:19.  Juniors Kaylin Korejwa (Charlotte, Vt.) and Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) rounded out the scoring by finishing 68th and 74th, respectively, with times of 25:28 and 25:36 for Massachusetts Maritime, which posted a team score of 218 points.

Salve Regina took top honors in the team competition with a score of 31 points, while the University of New England (35 points) and Rhode Island College (112 points) finished as the respective runner-up and third place squads in the event.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to Wenham, Mass. next Saturday morning to compete at the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational that begins at 11:00 a.m.
