Hall, Leonardi Lead Women's Cross Country To Solid 19th Place Performance At Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational

WENHAM, Mass. --  Both Massachusetts Maritime cross country teams recorded solid performances at the Gordon Pop Crowell Invitational Saturday morning on the campus of Gordon College, as the Buccaneer men placed 11th of 23 teams with a score of 312 points and the women’s squad finished 19th of 26 overall with a team score of 622 points, as both Massachusetts Maritime entries topped rival Maine Maritime in their respective competitions.

Senior Patrick Dannaher (Arlington, Va.) led the way on the men’s side for the Buccaneers by placing 43rd individually over the 5K layout with a time of 28:30, while fellow senior Paul Matz (Plainville, Mass.) and freshman Brent Schouler (Hyannis, Mass.) followed in 59th and 66th place, respectively, with times of 28:47 and 29:01.  Freshmen Kevin Griffin (Stoneham, Mass.) and Steven Migridichian (Shrewsbury, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for Massachusetts Maritime by placing 11th and 115th, respectively, with times of 30:07 and 30:10, as the Buccaneers edged out Maine Maritime’s Mariners by two points for 11th place in the final team standings.

Southern Maine took top team honors on the men’s side with a score of 87 points, while Westfield State (94 points) and Johnson & Wales (123 points) finished as the runner-up and third place squads, respectively in a field of 252 runners.

Senior Meredith Hall (Duxbury, Mass.) led the way for the Massachusetts Maritime women by placing 121st individually with a time of 22:26 over the 5K layout, while freshman Elizabeth Leonardi (Sandwich, Mass.) followed in 138th place with a time of 22:53.  Sophomore Sophie Enman (Marblehead, Mass.) and freshmen Lauren Bateman (Newbury, Mass.) and Kaitlin Sibley (Worcester, Mass.) rounded out the scoring for the Buccaneers by placing 169th, 210th and 240th with respective times of 23:43, 25:19 and 28:15 to finish six spots ahead of Maine Maritime in the final standings.

Southern New Hampshire and Salve Regina shared the women’s team crown with identical scores of 90 points, while Wellesley finished third in the final team standings with a score of 119 points in a field of 276 runners.

Both Massachusetts Maritime squads will be idle until Friday, October 15th when the Buccaneers travel to Franklin Park in Boston to participate in the Emmanuel Saints Invitational that begins at 4:00 p.m.
