GAME #2 FINAL:          WESTFIELD STATE 15, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0 (5 INNINGS)

WESTFIELD, Mass. --  Senior Emily Mailloux (Erving, Mass.) allowed one hit and fanned 20 over 10 innings pitched, as she tossed a perfect game in the nightcap to lead Westfield State to a sweep of a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader from Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon in five inning games played at Alumni Field.

The host Owls (9-15, 5-7 MASCAC) jumped out to a 6-0 lead in their first at-bat of the opener, as freshman Maddy Atkocaitis (Westfield, Mass.) drove in five runs in the lid-lifter for Westfield State.  Senior Breanne Bisceglia (Worcester, Mass.) also collected two hits as a part of a seven-hit attack for the hosts in support of Mailloux, who struck out 13 along the way.  Freshman Haley Delahanty (Holden, Mass.) singled in the setback for the visiting Buccaneers (4-14, 0-14 MASCAC), as fellow freshman Carli Thomas (Brewster, Mass.) allowed four earned runs and fanned a pair in suffering the setback inside the circle for Massachusetts Maritime.

Westfield State received a two-run single off the bat of freshman Lyndsey MacQuarrie (Avon, Mass.) as part of a run-uprising in the first inning of the nightcap, and Atkocaitis highlighted a three-run third inning rally with a two-run homer (her first of the season).  The Owls iced their triumph with eight fourth inning runs, two of which came on senior Kelsey Carpenter’s (Barre, Mass.) triple, and Mailloux set down all 15 batters she faced while striking out seven to pick up her fifth win of the spring.  Thomas allowed just three earned runs and struck out four in the second game setback for the Buccaneers.

Massachusetts Maritime closes out its 2015 schedule on Monday afternoon by heading to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to take on Pine Manor in a non-league doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Westfield State travels to Fitchburg, Mass. on Sunday afternoon for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference twinbill with Fitchburg State beginning at Noon.
