FINAL:              UMASS BOSTON 5, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 0

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Junior Edmilson Barros (Praia, Cape Verde) netted four goals to lead UMass Boston to a 5-0 non-league college men’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime in a rain-shortened match played Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Barros gave the visiting Beacons (14-3) the only tallies they would need in the first 15-plus minutes of play, as he converted a feed from senior Estive Sosa (Chelsea, Mass.) in the 13th minute to open the scoring before taking a pass from sophomore Joshua Khang (Brockton, Mass.) just 3:11 later to extend UMass Boston’s edge to 2-0 at the break.  The visitors iced their triumph with three goals in a 1:45 span early after intermission, as after freshman Jacob Higgins (Cardiff, Wales) collected his first collegiate marker in the 50th minute, Barros closed out the scoring with his eighth and ninth goals of the season just 1:04 apart to account for the final margin in a contest played in soaking rain and gusty winds.

Senior Alfonso Rosales (Revere, Mass.) made five first half saves in goal while adding a pair of assists on the offensive side on the night for UMass Boston, while freshman Connor Murphy (Mashpee, Mass.) suffered the setback in net for the host Buccaneers (5-10) with a pair of saves in the opening 29-plus minutes of play.  Freshman Trevor Ross (Fort Lee, Va.) made four stops in 23-plus minutes of action for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received one save from sophomore Mike Pruchnik (Rochester, Mass.) over the final 18 minutes of play.  The Beacons outshot the Buccaneers by a 12-8 margin overall (11-5 on goal), as the hosts took three of the four corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Westfield State in its Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale on Friday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium that begins at 7:00 p.m., while UMass Boston entertains Plymouth State in its final Little East Conference regular season match on Saturday afternoon in Boston beginning at 4:00 p.m.
