FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 2, SALEM STATE 1

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Taylor Sjoberg’s (Mansfield, Mass.) goal 3:33 into the second half proved to be the game-winner and lifted Massachusetts Maritime to a 2-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer victory over Salem State Saturday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Sjoberg deflected in a corner kick from fellow senior Connor McInnis (Duxbury, Mass.) on the deciding marker for the host Buccaneers (4-4, 2-1 MASCAC), as the tally was the second of his career.  Junior Ralph Bertrand (Rowley, Mass.) had given the visiting Vikings (0-9, 0-3 MASCAC) the early advantage when he headed in a cross from fellow junior Caleb Gomes (Nantucket, Mass.) in the 23rd minute for his first goal of the season, but McInnis evened matters for Massachusetts Maritime in the 29th minute of action with a penalty kick conversion for his third tally of the fall before setting up Sjoberg’s heroics in the opening minutes after intermission.

Junior Joe Cohen (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up his second win of the season in goal with a four save effort for the Buccaneers, while sophomore Greg Enos (Peabody, Mass.) made seven stops in the setback for Salem State as Massachusetts Maritime outshot the Vikings by a 16-9 margin overall (10-6 on goal) and held a 9-1 edge in corner kicks for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. on Tuesday evening to take on UMass Dartmouth in a non-league outing beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Salem State hosts Endicott in a non-league match on Monday evening in Salem, Mass. that also begins at 7:00 p.m.
