FINAL:              MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 7, REGIS 5

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Sophomore Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) and freshman Sam Jarvis (Laurel Springs, N.J.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Massachusetts Maritime to a 7-5 non-league college men’s lacrosse victory over Regis Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Jarvis collected both of his tallies in the opening 20 minutes of action to help stake the host Buccaneers (6-3) to an early 3-0 advantage that increased to 4-1 at the break, and after McLean’s man-up marker with 2:45 remaining in the third quarter extended that margin to four, the visiting Pride (6-4) used a pair of goals from sophomore Nicky Rodrigo (Miami, Fla.) and junior Peter Leighton (Wilmington, Mass.), the latter which came on a man-up situation, to close back to within two at 5-3 early in the fourth frame.  McLean and freshman Patrick Kearney (Scituate, Mass.) countered with a pair of tallies in a 1:01 span that restored Massachusetts Maritime’s four goal edge at 7-3 with 8:19 remaining, and a pair of man-up markers from Leighton and senior Chris Campbell (South Hadley, Mass.) in the final 5:57 of action enabled Regis to climb back to within two but get no closer.

Kearney finished with a goal and an assist in the triumph for the Buccaneers, who have now surpassed their entire win total of last season in the first nine contests of the spring.  Sophomore Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) and freshman Kevin Collins (Hampden, Mass.) also tallied on the night for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a pair of assists from sophomore Sean Staples (Norwell, Mass.) and a single helper off the stick of freshman Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.).  Rodrigo picked up an assist to finish with two points in the setback for Regis, which also received a goal from senior Matt Vogan (Billerica, Mass.).

Senior Paul Painten (Walpole, Mass.) picked up the win in goal with four first half saves for the Buccaneers, who received six second half stops from freshman Keison Cunningham (Weymouth, Mass.).  Senior Breandan Crane (Billerica, Mass.) made 19 saves in the setback for the Pride, as Massachusetts Maritime outshot Regis by a 43-25 margin (26-15 on goal) and forced 22 turnovers by the visitors for the match.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Emerson in a New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference outing on Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:30 p.m., while Regis heads to Nashua, N.H. on Thursday afternoon to take on Daniel Webster in a New England Collegiate Conference match that begins at 4:00 p.m.
