Crew Men’s Varsity Fours Win; Women Take Home a Pair of Third Place Finishes
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – There were calm winds and still water at the Still Water Reservoir on Sunday morning for crew's races with Endicott College and Bryant University. The men's varsity fours finished in first in their race, the women's team took home two third place finishes and the men's novice team's two boats finished second and third in their competition.
The men's varsity fours race was a close one with the Maritime A boat finishing first with a time of 7:36.1. The boat, captained by Eric Higgins (Marshfield, Mass), came across 1.5 seconds faster than the Endicott boat. The Maritime B boat, captained by Aidan Alusic-Bingham (Antrim, N.H.) finished in third with a time of 7:58.1.
In the men's novice fours race, Both Maritime boats finished in second and third place, the A boat coming across at 8:09.8, the B boat at 8:30.6. Endicott won the race with a time of 7:59.6
The women's varsity fours competed in two races against Endicott, who the team had beaten for the first time ever earlier this spring, and Bryant. In the first race, Miah Archambault (South Yarmouth, Mass) and her rowers finished behind Bryant and Endicott's A boats with a time of 8:58.0. In the second race, it was the Bryant's B boat taking the victory, followed by Endicott's B boat and then Maritime's boat crossed at 9:01.2.
The Buccaneers will cap off their season next weekend, Saturday, May 4th, at the New England Rowing Championships hosted by the Quinsigamond Rowing Association in Worcester, Mass.
