MATTAPOISETT, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Maritime offshore sailing team opened the Fall 2014 with three top five finishes at the Quisset Round The Bay Regatta on Saturday afternoon.
The J-105 crew consisting of senior Matthew Ferlotti (Fairfax, Va.), juniors Robert Queisser (Carmel, Ind.), Timothy Forgione (Kendall Park, N.J.) and Ryan Davis (North Falmouth, Mass.), sophomores Kyle Brego (St. John, Virgin Islands) and Evan Sampou (West Newbury, Mass.) as well as Rorey Femenella placed second in the event for the Buccaneers. The crew of the Temptress consisting of seniors Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.) and Andrew Morgan (Jupiter, Fla.), juniors James Lamb (Taunton, Mass.), Tor Johannessen (Amesbury, Mass.) and Stephen Bowen (Gilbertsville, Pa.), sophomore Clare Carlson (Provincetown, Mass.) as well as Alex Hon and Leah Saunders finished fourth overall in the 26-boat field.
The Buffalo, whose crew consisted of seniors Charles Cahill (Duxbury, Mass.), Nicholas Pehr (Seabrook, Tex.) and Chris Wagner (Middleton, Mass.), sophomores George Luber (North Reddington Beach, Fla.), David Rodriguez (Wellfleet, Mass.), Joseph Dragon (Glen Arm, Md.) and Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.), along with Monica Chilcot, Paige Mentuck, Dave Mannta, Steve Adam and Judson Yerkes, placed fifth in the final team standings for Massachusetts Maritime. The final Buccaneer entry, Sabre 36, was comprised of senior Camille Aiello (Hamden, Conn.) and freshmen Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.), Patrick Goldsmith (Huntington, N.Y.) and Brandon Deal (Norton, Mass.).
The Massachusetts Maritime off shore and dinghy squads will be in action next weekend at the MYC Round The Bay Race as well as the MIT Women’s Deutsch Trophy, the Maine Maritime Penobscot Bay Open and the Maine Maritime Philip Harman Cup.
