WENHAM, Mass. --  Freshman Jacob Syed (Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning to lead Gordon to a 6-5 non-league college baseball victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday afternoon at J. Tec White Field.

Syed drew a one out walk to start the deciding rally for the host Fighting Scots (2-7), as he stole second and scored on an ensuing error that enabled Gordon to overcome an early four-run deficit.  The visiting Buccaneers (4-3) jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in their first at-bat on an RBI single off the bat of junior Zachary Sullivan (Barnstable, Mass.) that was coupled with a suicide squeeze by junior Hunter Horton (Wareham, Mass.) and a throwing error, and sophomore Brendan O’Kane (Pocasset, Mass.) extended Massachusetts Maritime’s edge to 4-0 in the second when he singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice, stole third and scored on an ensuing throwing error.  The Fighting Scots took the lead with a five-run third inning outburst, capped by a three-run homer off the bat of junior Brian Harrington (Shoreham, N.Y.) that followed Syed’s RBI single and a fielder’s choice groundout by senior Eric Wolak (Trumbull, Conn.), but the Buccaneers forced extra frames in the seventh when Sullivan’s fielder’s choice groundout plated sophomore Bob Lee (Braintree, Mass.), setting up Syed’s heroics in the bottom of the 10th for Gordon.

Harrington and freshman John Brownell (Glastonbury, Conn.) each had two hits as part of a six-hit attack for the hosts, as junior Ben Davidson (Sterling, Mass.) picked up the win in relief for the Fighting Scots with four innings of three-hit ball that included a strikeout.  Sullivan and O’Kane each rapped out three hits as part of a 10-hit Massachusetts Maritime attack on the afternoon, as the Buccaneers also received a pair of hits off the bat of sophomore Ben Maher (Plymouth, Mass.).  Freshman Zacary Cooney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) suffered the setback on the mound for the visitors, allowing an unearned run over the final 1 2/3 innings of action, as freshman Thomas Notarangelo (Foxboro, Mass.) allowed four hits and fanned a pair over five innings in his collegiate debut.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Becker in a non-league outing on Thursday afternoon at Commodore Hendy Field beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Gordon hosts Lesley in a non-league match-up on Wednesday afternoon at J. Tec White Field that also begins at 3:30 p.m.
