Halpin Paces Women's Cross Country To 13th Place Finish At University Of New England Invitational

BIDDEFORD, Maine --  The Massachusetts Maritime women’s cross country team placed 13th of 16 schools competing at the University of New England Invitational Saturday morning at Rotary Park.

 

Freshman Lexy Halpin (Plymouth, Mass.) paced the Buccaneers with a 69th place individual finish in a field of 139 runners, posting a time of 26:05 over the 5K layout.  Freshman Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) and sophomore Celeste Menard (Annandale, Va.) were next in 70th and 77th place, respectively, with times of 26:11 and 27:31, while freshman Julia Staula (Sharon, Mass.) and senior Elise LaBonte (Weymouth, Mass.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with respective finishes of 83rd and 84th place in times of 29:58 and 30:27.

 

The host Nor’easters took top team honors in the competition with a score of 19 points, while Endicott (91) and Wheaton (100) followed in the runner-up and third place positions.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads to North Dartmouth, Mass. next Saturday afternoon to compete at the UMass Dartmouth Shriners Invitational that begins at Noon.
