Footit Claims Top Honors In Leading Women's Cross Country To Title At Pine Manor Invitational

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --  Sophomore Mara Footit (Wilbraham, Mass.) took top individual honors to lead Massachusetts Maritime to the team title at the Pine Manor Women’s Cross Country Invitational Thursday afternoon.

 

Footit covered the 5K layout around the Pine Manor campus in a time of 21:14, as she outdistanced runner-up Jessica Roberts of Mount Ida by 53 seconds in claiming the individual crown.  Junior Shavonne Boyle (Doylestown, Pa.) was next in the fifth place for the Buccaneers with a time of 24:44, while sophomore Celeste Menard (Annandale, Va.) followed in eighth place with a time of 26:26.  Freshmen Julia Staula (Sharon, Mass.) and Kaylene Murphy (Randolph, Mass.) rounded out Massachusetts Maritime’s scoring with respective 10th and 11th place finishing times of 26:43 and 26:51, as the Buccaneers’ score of 35 points outdistanced runner-up Mount Ida’s total of 41 points.  Host Pine Manor was next in third place with 63 points, while Daniel Webster finished fourth with 88 points.

 

Seniors Elise LaBonte (Weymouth, Mass.) and Jillian Petrarca (Matunuck, R.I.) recorded top 20 performances as well for Massachusetts Maritime, as LaBonte placed 15th with a time of 28:32 while Petrarca was 20th in a time of 30:12.

 

Massachusetts Maritime heads into Boston next Friday afternoon (October 17th) to compete in the Emmanuel Saints Invitational that begins at 4:00 p.m.
