BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Freshman Alycia Dery’s (Millville, Mass.) goal with 7:18 remaining proved to be the game-winner and lifted Becker to a 1-0 non-league college women’s soccer victory over Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

Dery’s breakaway tally, her second of the season, snapped the scoreless tie for the visiting Hawks (2-0-1), and freshman Katherine Cormier (San Diego, Calif.) made that stand up in goal by making seven saves to notch her second shutout of the year.  Becker recorded 12 of its 20 shots over the final 45 minutes of play, as junior Kim Courcy (Warwick, R.I.) made 11 stops in net for the host Buccaneers (0-1) in their season opener, including three point blank saves on Hawk junior Caroline Plunkett (Rockaway, N.Y.) in the opening half.  Massachusetts Maritime notched 11 shots for the match in Head Coach Ray Cabral’s debut on the Buccaneer sidelines.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Lesley in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 4:15 p.m., while Becker heads to Newburgh, N.Y. on Sunday afternoon to take on Mount St. Mary in a non-league outing that begins at 1:00 p.m.
