BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Catrina Longo (Billerica, Mass.) netted four goals and two assists for six points to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 15-10 non-league college women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Sunday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Corsairs (2-1) built an early 3-2 lead and received three first half goals from freshman Gabby Giangrande (Westbrook, Conn.) to take a 6-2 advantage at the break, and after the teams traded two tallies each in the opening 7:09 after intermission, UMass Dartmouth scored four unanswered markers in a 2:04 span (the last coming on Giangrande’s free position conversion) to take a 12-4 edge with just under 19 minutes to play.  The visitors maintained an eight goal lead before the host Buccaneers (0-1) used a four goal run of their own over a 4:40 stretch to slice their deficit to four (13-9) on junior Stephanie Hunt’s (Brookfield, Conn.) tally, but the Corsairs iced their triumph on goals by Longo and freshman Brooke Martel (Haverhill, Mass.) in the final 2:24 of action.

Giangrande finished with four goals and an assist for five points in the win for UMass Dartmouth, which also received a pair of tallies from junior Erin Kish (Littleton, Mass.) as well as a marker and helper each off the sticks off senior Kathryn Gibb (Georgetown, Mass.) and junior Raquel Riley (Wakefield, Mass.).  Sophomore Angela Correia (Bridgewater, Mass.) and freshman Sam Muir (Sturbridge, Mass.) also netted goals on the day for the Corsairs, who received an assist off the stick of junior Louisa Stansbury (Milford, Mass.).

Hunt notched five goals and a pair of assists for a game-high seven points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker and helper from senior Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Senior Christina Murphy (Forestdale, Mass.) and junior Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.) also tallied for the Buccaneers, who received markers off the sticks of freshmen Cammi Balentine (Haverhill, Mass.) and Heather Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.) as well as an assist from senior Ashley Solari (Sandwich, Mass.).

Sophomore Kaitlyn Burchill (Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up her second win of the season in goal with a 12-save effort for UMass Dartmouth, while junior Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made 10 stops in net in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Corsairs outshot the Buccaneers by a 32-27 margin overall (25-22 on goal) , but the hosts held a 140-13 edge in draw controls for the contest.
