FINAL:              SALEM STATE 13, MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME 8

BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. --  Senior Kelsey Russell (Arlington, Mass.) netted four goals and a pair of assists for six points to lead Salem State to a 13-8 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse victory over Massachusetts Maritime Tuesday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.

The visiting Vikings (6-6, 1-3 MASCAC) tallied three of the final four goals of the half to turn a one-goal edge into a 6-3 advantage at the break, and markers by sophomores Anita Caceda (Malden, Mass.) and Katie Hart (Beverly, Mass.) helped extend Salem State’s lead to 8-4 with 13:49 remaining.  Freshman Stephanie Hunt (Brookfield, Conn.) sparked a run for the host Buccaneers (4-5, 1-3 MASCAC) with a pair of goals in a 3:15 stretch that enabled Massachusetts Maritime to pull back to within two at 9-7 with 9:44 to play, but the Vikings iced their triumph by netting four of the final five markers of the match, including two off the stick of Russell, to account for the final score.

Freshman Courtney Smith (Peabody, Mass.) added four goals as well in the win for Salem State, which also received a hat trick and two assists from Hart as well as a single marker from senior Kristen Caso (Framingham, Mass.).  Hunt finished with four goals and an assist for five points in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a hat trick from sophomore Dahlia Seggelin (Sharon, Mass.).  Freshman Brianna Pingree (Mashpee, Mass.) also tallied for the hosts, who received a helper from junior Molly Smith (Westwood, Mass.).

Sophomore Chyenne Jackson (Peabody, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Salem State with a five-save effort, while freshman Mikayla Correia (Dartmouth, Mass.) made 10 stops in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime.  The Vikings outshot the Buccaneers by a 25-20 margin and won 15 of the 22 draw controls for the contest.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Elms in a non-league outing on Thursday evening at Clean Harbors Stadium beginning at 7:00 p.m., while Salem State entertains Bridgewater State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference match on Saturday evening in Salem, Mass. that begins at 5:30 p.m.
