Great Herring Pond Open/Central Series Three Regatta

BOURNE/CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --  The Massachusetts Maritime dinghy sailing team posted a pair of top four performances in competition on Saturday in both the Great Herring Pond Open at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center as well as the Central Series Three Regatta hosted by Harvard on the Charles River.

Freshmen Frank Reeg (Spring Lake, Mich.) and Jacquelynn Devore (Chesapeake, Va.) sailed in the “A” boat during Central Series Three action for the Buccaneers, while junior George Luber (North Redington Beach, Fla.) and freshman Matthew Schaefer (Stratford, Conn.) comprised the “B” vessel squad.  Competitors faced cold, wet and shifting wind conditions throughout the day, as Massachusetts Maritime placed fourth overall in the final team standings with a score of 54 points.  Tufts took top honors in the 16-team event, with Boston College and Salve Regina besting the Buccaneers with respective second and third place finishes.

Conditions just as challenging on Herring Pond, as Massachusetts Maritime finished fourth in the final team standings against both Roger Williams and Tufts.  Juniors Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.) and Joseph Dragon (Glen Arm, Md.), sophomores Sergio Gratta (Sarasota, Fla.) and Molly Cormican (South Weymouth, Mass.) along with freshmen Braden Foster (Trumbull, Conn.), Frank Rudigoz (Ketchum, Idaho) and Jonathan Baker (Marblehead, Mass.) comprised the Buccaneer crew for the competition that took place in rain and strong shifting winds.

Massachusetts Maritime will host the Admiral Aylmer’s Trophy Regatta next weekend at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center while also traveling to competition at both Sacred Heart and Tufts.
