Offshore, Dinghy Sailing Squads Enjoy Weekend Success At Navy, Vermont & Jott Hurricane Cup

Navy Shields Trophy/Beverly Jott Regatta/Vermont Lake Champlain Open

Both the Massachusetts Maritime offshore and dinghy sailing teams posted solid performances in their respective events over the weekend at the prestigious Navy Shields Trophy, Beverly Jott Hurricane Cup Regatta and the Vermont Lake Champlain Open.

 

The Buccaneers finished fifth of nine teams competing at Navy over the weekend, as the contingent of seniors Sean McLaughlin (Fairhaven, Mass.), Priscilla Stoll (Pocasset, Mass.), Charles Cahill (Duxbury, Mass.), Andrew Morgan (Jupiter, Fla.) and Matthew Ferlotti (Fairfax, Va.), junior Robert Queisser (Carmel, Ind.) and sophomores Kyle Brego (St. John, Virgin Islands) and Emily Casella (Little Egg Harbor, N.J.) posted a team score of 26 points to top the host Midshipmen, the United States Military Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy and Maine Maritime in the competition.  California Maritime took top honors on the weekend, with Queen’s University finishing as the runner-up.

 

At the Beverly Jott Hurricane Cup Regatta on Buzzards Bay, the Buffalo placed sixth of 14 boats in the event, as Massachusetts Maritime’s crew on that vessel consisted of senior Rory Femenella (New Bedford, Mass.), juniors Stephen Bowen (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and Judson Yerkes (West Barnstable, Mass.), sophomores David Rodriguez (Wellfleet, Mass.), Ryan Novak-Smith (Johnston, R.I.) and Christopher Mannka (Uxbridge, Mass.) and freshmen Alexander Calderwood (Brewster, Mass.), Erica Mutoh (Palmetto Bay, Fla.), Jeffrey Adam (Newport, R.I.) and Monica Chilcot (Plymouth, Mass.).

 

In dinghy action, the Buccaneers placed 15th at the Vermont Lake Champlain Open, with the “A” boat comprised of sophomore George Luber (North Reddington Beach, Fla.) and Natalie Lu (Oak Hill, Va.) and the “B” boat consisting of junior Karl Ryder (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman Cassandra Kolstad (Madison, Conn.).

 

Massachusetts Maritime will host the Commonwealth Invitational this weekend at the Keith Hartford Sailing Center on Herring Pond in Bourne beginning at 9:30 a.m.
